It was well past 9pm by the time we arrived at our hotel in Quito. We’d just flown in from Bogota, and fortunately, the driver that our hotel sent for us was at the airport on time to pick us up and drive us nearly an hour into Quito’s historic city center where we had reservations at Hotel Real Audiencia overlooking Plaza Santo Domingo. Now that Jave and I are safely back home following our two week trip to Jamaica which included a weeklong road trip around the island, I can confidently say that it was one of the best travel experiences of my life. You see, I’ve been traveling to Jamaica since 2006 when I first went with friends to celebrate my 26th birthday. After meeting Jave on our last day in Jamaica and getting to know him better through frequent phone conversations once I was back home, I started making return visits – usually two or so times a year until we got married and Jave immigrated to the U.S. a year thereafter. I have an OCD packing routine that I implement about a month to several weeks prior to a trip. I meticulously lay out all of the clothes I intend to pack on my living room sofa, and over the weeks leading up to my trip, I edit my wardrobe selections based on the weather forecast and my itinerary, adding and subtracting from my selections as needed. Did I mention that I’m a bit OCD?

Wow – June has been quite a challenge! Jave and I have been roadtripping a lot lately. Earlier this year, we traveled locally throughout Southern California to Carlsbad, Goleta, and Palm Desert, and more recently, we roadtripped from L.A. to Sacramento and from southeastern Virginia to Washington, D.C. This past summer, I also roadtripped with my cousin Lauren from Atlanta to Savannah.
