Jave and I have been busy adulting for the first part of 2016 – so much so that we even cancelled our spring travel plans to Asia to prioritize other goals that have nothing to do with travel. For the record, it’s been rough; my feet are itching and wanderlust has officially kicked in. The good news is that relief is in sight as we have a summer getaway booked for my birthday later this month to keep us motivated. More
There’s more to Colombia’s food scene apart from fried fish, patacones, and costeño cheese although Colombians do seem to love their costeño cheese. Aside from its mesmerizing beauty, Cartagena is the perfect place to experience Colombian food at its finest whether sampling street food favorites or breaking bread in one of the Old City’s many restaurants. Although Jave and I try not to eat out too much, when we do, we like to push ourselves to try new restaurants as opposed to constantly resorting to our usual faves. It’s a gamble, because God knows there’s nothing foodies like us hate more than spending a lot of money on a mediocre meal. So we’re always elated when we try new restaurants where we end up loving the food. What’s even better is when we try new black-owned restaurants where we end up loving the food! More
Last summer, I shared a post about certain restaurants in Los Angeles that are my go to restaurants when I’m craving a particular type of cuisine. Shockingly, I didn’t include any Mexican restaurants on my go to list because honestly, at the time, whenever I craved Mexican, I’d just head to Beach Mex or to La Sirena Grill, both of which are close to work. But apart from those two restaurants, I haven’t really explored L.A.’s Mexican food scene which is ridiculous considering that L.A. has such a large Mexican population. More
With its rich history, artistic lure, and strong Creole and Cajun heritage, it’s no wonder that tourists flock to New Orleans in droves, accounting for forty percent of the city’s revenue. But let’s be honest – one of the main tourist draws to NOLA is the food. And anyone who comes to New Orleans without dining experiences at the top of their ‘to do’ list has flawed priorities. Either that, or they’re just one of those anomalies who merely eats to live. I’ll admit that I used to be one of those freaks of nature, but somewhere down the line, my tastebuds woke up and realized that good food is one of life’s great pleasures. More
As an everyday foodie, for the life of me, I can’t understand travelers who don’t incorporate local dining experiences into their travels. For me, tasting a destination’s cuisine is just as important as experiencing its sites, smells, and sounds, and because of that, I invest a lot of time in researching local restaurants and scouring through reviews. Because we’re not slow travelers, when Jave and I reach a destination, we hit the ground running which means that we usually have to have a game plan for every aspect of our trip, including where we’re going to eat. Nothing in Copenhagen is cheap. Let me just preface this post by saying that. Unless you plan and budget very well, a trip to Copenhagen could quickly devour your travel budget. When planning our trip to Copenhagen this past March, once I found a place to stay that was within our budget, the next priority was finding Copenhagen restaurants that also fit comfortably within our budget. In a recent post I gave you an overview of our short and sweet getaway to Santa Ynez Valley where we indulged in wine tastings along California’s beautiful Central Coast. As I mentioned before, Santa Ynez Valley is comprised of several small communities including: Ballard, Santa Ynez, Buellton, Los Alamos, Los Olivos, and Solvang. Because we based ourselves in Solvang, for the sake of convenience, we primarily focused on Solvang restaurants. In this post, I’m sharing our favorites… More
As much as I love trying new restaurants, and as much as I hate getting stuck in a rut of any kind, there are some tried and true restaurants in Los Angeles that I can always count on to satisfy my cravings. These are the restaurants I find myself returning to again and again for quick, affordable, and downright delicious eats.
WARNING: This post will make you drool, and that’s perfectly okay.
