Scenic Panama City

Scenic Panama City

If anything has changed about Panama City since I lived there as a kid back in the ‘80s, it’s definitely the skyline. As my dad recalls, when we moved from the city, there wasn’t much of a skyline at all. But nowadays, the city skyline is full of skyscrapers that house businesses and residences that boast spectacular ocean views.

Upon arriving back to the city after being away for so many years, we all marveled at the skyscrapers dominating the city’s skyline as we made our way through downtown from the airport, and we all agreed that we felt like we were in Miami.

If you’re headed to Panama City and want to know where you can enjoy views of its magnificent sklyline, here are some suggestions…

Panaviera at Ocean Sun Casino | Trump International Hotel + Tower

Calle Punta Colon, Punta, Pacifica, Panama City, Panama
Phone: 507.294.4777

Love him or hate him, the Donald’s penthouse bar at the Ocean Sun Casino is a prime spot to take in views of the city skyline. Following dinner on our first night back home, we headed to the 66th floor of the Ocean Sun Casino where the swanky Panaviera rooftop bar is located. It’s the perfect spot for drinks, light club music and of course, uninterrupted views.

Ancon Hill

I previously wrote about our hike up Ancon Hill during our first morning back in Panama City so I won’t write too much more about it here. But in case you don’t remember my previous Ancon Hill post or never read it, I’ll just reiterate that the views on the way up to and from the top of the hill are phenomenal. Given the fact that the hill is the highest point in the city, the summit offers 360° city views that simply can’t be missed. Plus, the hike to the top offers a very serene workout.

Tantalo Hotel & Roofbar

Calle 8 Este con Avenida B
Casco Viejo, Panama
Phone: 507.262.4030

If you’re going to Panama City, chances are that you’ll be visiting or staying in Casco Viejo, the city’s popular historic district. Even Panama’s president lives and works in Casco Viejo at El Palacio de las Garzas, and while we were in Casco Viejo, we had the chance to see his security caravan whiz by.

One of the best places to take in the city views from Casco Viejo is at the Tantalo Hotel & Roofbar. The hotel is a funky, artsy environmentally-conscious space, but its main draw is definitely the rooftop bar. My advice: order a bunch of appetizers, some mojitos, and enjoy the spectacular views and chill vibes.

Which of these spots looks like the best place to take in views of the Panama City skyline?

I love the view from Ancon Hill but I am rather partial to having drinks at a rooftop bar (don’t you just love it when the evening breeze stops you from getting drunk too quickly). I guess I would go for the last two options.

Lol – I don’t think the evening breeze would stop me. I’m such a lightweight – it usually only takes one drink.

I thought it said Rump 🙂 at first. I love skyline views. It does kind of suck that everything gets so built up. I felt the same with L.A when we visited. Progress ;-). Nice picture of you and Jave!

Thanks, Kemkem! Lol – “Rump” would be fitting. 🙂 i totally agree. It seems that every single last inch of real estate in L.A. is being developed and I hate it. There’s something to be said for communities that still value open space and trees.
