Life with thatgirlcarmel: Nov. 2015

Welcome to the last month of 2015! Can you believe it? Seriously, where has the year gone?!

Camel encounter in Cappadocia back in 2010…

At the time of this post, Jave and I will be in Dubai. It’s one of the places that’s long been at the top of Jave’s travel wish list, and I’m hoping that it’ll live up to the hype. While I’m really looking forward to marveling at Dubai’s glitz and glam, I’m also hoping to get a taste of the emirate’s more authentic side. What’s in Dubai beyond the lavish resorts, all-inclusive malls, and the Burj Khalifa? We shall see…

I’m just glad that Jave’s UAE visa was approved a few weeks ago because I was starting to get a bit worried when his application was put on hold due to a miscommunication.

As we get ready to head into the New Year, I’m starting to set some goals for 2016. For starters, Jave and I definitely have to prioritize renovating our place, starting with our bathroom, before tackling the kitchen. It’s something that’s been on our ‘To Do’ list for awhile now, but we’ve been putting it off and putting it off because home renovations ain’t cheap! But in 2016, there will be no more delays – this is something that MUST get done. No more excuses. And we’ll probably end up doing a lot of the work (except for the plumbing) ourselves to cut costs. I’m praying that lots of YouTube videos and Jave’s carpentry skills come in handy!

As far as blogging goals goes, I want to learn how to use my camera better, especially when it comes to nighttime photography. I’ve had my Canon t3i for going on two years now, and I still don’t know how to use it to its full potential.

Another goal for next year is to introduce some different elements on the blog to spice things up a bit more than I already have. I want to continually challenge myself to try new things, and while blog posts are great, I definitely want to go beyond blogging on this blog – lol! I want to keep things fresh, sexy, and inspired. 😉

Speaking of keeping things fresh, I recently joined Snapchat. At first, I was hesitant to join because there are just way too many social media outlets to stay abreast of these days. But as a blogger and entrepreneur, I have to stay up with the times. So I had my oldest nephew give me a brief Snapchat tutorial (I’m still kinda confused), and I posted my first snap last weekend when Jave and I visited Huntington Gardens (expect a blog post soon).

I must confess that Snapchat is kinda fun because you can combine photos and videos to show what goes on behind the scenes in your life, during your travels, etc. in 10-second snaps. I really think it’s a fun and creative way to get to know the face behind the brand, if you will. The only thing is that snap stories only stay live for 24 hours which means that followers only have a limited time to watch your snaps. I plan on sharing snaps from Dubai, so be sure to download Snapchat and follow thatgirlcarmel.

I’m still going through our South America pictures and planning posts, and I have to admit that every time I come across a photo of myself, I’m turned off. Lol. You see, I’ve gotten chubby in all the wrong places (think: back fat, inner thighs, triceps)…NOT cool! From this picture, I know I may not look particularly chubby, but I’ve made up my mind that it’s time to get toned up. Lately, I’ve been slacking on samba classes and I haven’t been getting in any good cardio or toning exercises. That has to change. Not just for vanity purposes, but because I want to live a healthier lifestyle. I want to be lean and fit, eat more organic foods, and cut back on my sugar consumption (God help me!).

As I work hard to build a business and life I love, what good does it do if I’m too unhealthy or out of shape to enjoy it? So I’m not waiting for some New Year’s resolution to start working out consistently – I’ve already started. And I probably started out a bit too hardcore since I could barely walk on Thanksgiving because my inner thighs were so sore. But hey – they’ve gotta go, so bring on the burn!

How was your November? What are some of your goals for December and the coming year?

Love posts like these! I hope you and Jave are enjoying Dubai. I recently started using Snapchat too and I’m excited to use it even more when I begin my 2016 travels in February. I’ll add you!

    Happy travels 🙂

Hey Lauren! We actually just got back from our trip today. We managed to squeeze a lot of fun into a short amount of time. I added you back on Snapchat and I’m looking forward to seeing what you get into during your upcoming travels! ?
