Jave, Meet Snow: The Palm Springs Aerial Tram

Jave, Meet Snow: The Palm Springs Aerial Tram

Being from Jamaica, when Jave first immigrated to the U.S. in 2009, he’d never seen snow. So on an overnight trip to Palm Springs, part of my mission was to take him up on the Palm Springs Aerial Tram into the San Jacinto Mountains to witness my Jamaican’s first encounter with snow.

The last time I’d been up to these mountains was years ago in the summertime. And while I’ve been in the snow plenty of times (shoot, I lived in Chicago!), this was my first time seeing snow in the San Jacinto Mountains also.

The first thing Jave noticed when we stepped outside of the tram once we reached the top was how cold it was. I assured him that snow tends to be cold. Jave was all smiles as he touched the snow and held it in his hands as we made our way down the pathway into the clearing.

And Jave just couldn’t resist the temptation to be at one with the snow…

While in Palm Springs, the trip up on the tram is definitely a worthwhile excursion – especially to escape the sweltering desert heat in the summertime. And while Jave and I didn’t try it, there’s a restaurant at the summit at the top that serves lunch and dinner. You can definitely make a day of your time exploring the mountains as there are guided nature walks and camping opportunities during the summer and various winter activities as well.
