Sydney’s Fort Denison
A water taxi ride to Fort Denison is a great way to see Sydney Harbour. Although the ride is only about five minutes from Circular Quay, it will offer you pristine views of the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, and the city’s skyline.
Before a defensive structure was built on the island which is known as Pinchgut, prisoners were sent there. After two American warships entered Sydney Harbour without warning, the government decided to fortify the island which is how Fort Denison came to be.
Now, the fort is a museum that features exhibits of Australia’s history since the time of the Aborigines. And although I didn’t try it, there’s also a restaurant on site.
