We’re already 11 days into 2017, so this post is a tad late. I had every intention of posting this a few days before kissing 2016 buh-bye forever, but…yeah… More
It was well past 9pm by the time we arrived at our hotel in Quito. We’d just flown in from Bogota, and fortunately, the driver that our hotel sent for us was at the airport on time to pick us up and drive us nearly an hour into Quito’s historic city center where we had reservations at Hotel Real Audiencia overlooking Plaza Santo Domingo. Although I was still recovering from traveler’s tummy, I was hungry, tired, and really looking forward to kicking back in our comfy hotel room and ordering room service. More
When researching our Dubai itinerary, I kept coming across Facebook posts of people out somewhere in the middle of the Emirati desert sandboarding, dune bashing, and riding camels through the desert as part of a desert safari experience. I was intrigued. When a friend of mine, who returned from Dubai a month prior to our visit, texted me and told me that we just had to go on a desert safari, I was sold. More
Now that Jave and I are safely back home following our two week trip to Jamaica which included a weeklong road trip around the island, I can confidently say that it was one of the best travel experiences of my life. You see, I’ve been traveling to Jamaica since 2006 when I first went with friends to celebrate my 26th birthday. After meeting Jave on our last day in Jamaica and getting to know him better through frequent phone conversations once I was back home, I started making return visits – usually two or so times a year until we got married and Jave immigrated to the U.S. a year thereafter. I have an OCD packing routine that I implement about a month to several weeks prior to a trip. I meticulously lay out all of the clothes I intend to pack on my living room sofa, and over the weeks leading up to my trip, I edit my wardrobe selections based on the weather forecast and my itinerary, adding and subtracting from my selections as needed. Did I mention that I’m a bit OCD?
Our travels got off to an extremely slow start this year. Apart from a few local weekend getaways earlier in the year, we stayed firmly planted in L.A. for the first three quarters of 2015 with our first trip abroad not taking place until October. Prior to that, we hadn’t ventured out of the country since our trip to Europe last spring although we stayed very busy in 2014 with lots of backyard travel. More
Here’s something you may not know about me: I love books! I often say that I miss my undergrad days when I was an English major because all I did all day everyday was read all sorts of books – usually 6 or 7 at a time – and write. Although my mind would sometimes get all mumble-jumbled with characters and plots, I absolutely loved juggling an ever evolving reading list. More
I always feel super excited to start a new year! When the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Day and we collectively hop the timeline into a brand new year, I can’t help but feel a sense of renewal. It’s as if my slate has been wiped clean and I’ve been given another chance at a fresh start. Now that I think about it, that’s the same feeling I have when I wake up each morning!
As some of you know, although I’m a relative newbie to Instagram, it’s quickly become my favorite social media platform. I’m so over Facebook and its super limited organic reach. I still rock with Twitter because it still brings some good traffic to my site. I started off being super excited about Pinterest, but I just don’t use it enough and it’s not a platform that fosters any real engagement. Although some people think G+ is irrelevant, I love the community-building and conversations it incites. But alas, it’s my Instagram account that I’m feeling the most optimistic about. More
