In celebration of Black History Month, Jave and I decided to pay a visit to the African American Firefighter Museum (AAFM) in downtown Los Angeles. While L.A. is home to the Los Angeles County Fire Museum (I’ve never been), before randomly learning about the AAFM somewhere online, I had no clue that a Los Angeles museum dedicated to black firefighters even existed. En route from the airport to our hotel in Medellín, we chitchatted with our driver about our itinerary.
“If you want to go to Guatape, I can take you,” he said.
“Oh really?” I asked, instinctively knowing that he was going to try to hustle us. “How much would you charge?” More
Can you believe it’s already February?! February 2016?! Crazy – right? Needless to say, this month whizzed by in a blur. More
During our recent trip to the UAE, Jave and I divided our four-night hotel stay in Dubai with one night in Abu Dhabi. So during our first two nights, we stayed at Centro Barsha, and during our final two nights, we stayed at a different hotel in Dubai in a different neighborhood in an effort to get a more well-rounded perspective of the city. So consider this review Part I of where to stay in Dubai. More
When researching our Dubai itinerary, I kept coming across Facebook posts of people out somewhere in the middle of the Emirati desert sandboarding, dune bashing, and riding camels through the desert as part of a desert safari experience. After meeting Jave on our last day in Jamaica and getting to know him better through frequent phone conversations once I was back home, I started making return visits – usually two or so times a year until we got married and Jave immigrated to the U.S. a year thereafter. I have an OCD packing routine that I implement about a month to several weeks prior to a trip. I meticulously lay out all of the clothes I intend to pack on my living room sofa, and over the weeks leading up to my trip, I edit my wardrobe selections based on the weather forecast and my itinerary, adding and subtracting from my selections as needed. Did I mention that I’m a bit OCD?
Welcome to 2016 – I hope you had an amazing holiday! Jave and I returned from Jamaica late last week where we spent a week at home in Westmoreland for Christmas before heading off for a weeklong road trip around the island. We celebrated the New Year quietly in Treasure Beach, a beautiful town in the Jamaican countryside that boasts a scenic seaside. More
